There definitely is an "atmosphere" at this place. It's an atmosphere of watching, tattling and reporting back on other people. And there is a clique in place at the top encompassing the HR, senior managers and longtime employees. It's a situation acknowledged but not addressed by other managers, higher ups and tellers. Normally I would have put this down to my overactive imagination and wondering what was wrong with me, but I've had this confirmed by many ex-employees, including the son of someone who once worked there as well as the wife of a former board member and which was given as his reason for quitting.
However, if you are young (under 40), female, married, have kids and are the kind that considers their workplace as a substitute family (not in work hours, but in people), drive a nice car, love to go out and drink with your coworkers after hours and have completely generic interests (make sure your hobbies are gardening and spending time with your family, NOT collecting civil war buttons or anything else out of the realm of the ordinary), then you should fit right in.
I wouldn't call them conservative in the extreme, but if you aren't the generic worker, you're going to be stoned, hard. It also helps if you're not real intelligent, too.
